Miriam Allen is a notable songwriter who's opened up for iconic musicians such as Tim O'Brien, Doc Watson, Del McCoury, & Las Estrellas de America, both solo & with various bands. She's performed in festivals around the western hemisphere from Merle Fest (NC) to Salmon Fest (AK) to the Festival Rio Cuale (Puerto Vallarta, MX.) Solo shows usually include vocals, guitar, fiddle & foot stomp with genres stretching from avant garde to honkytonk to Latin. Miriam was a finalist in the John Hartford Songwriting Contest & the Asheville Brown Bag Competition. A passionate minority advocate, Miriam organized The Resilience Festival in 2023 to raise money for therapeutic services for victims of sexual assault & provide mental health resources for the community. In September of 2025, she organized the Pathway to Citizenship show in Asheville NC to raise money for immigrant legal protections & spread educational materials.
Miriam is a naturalist who's backpacked over 1000 miles around the Andes, Rockies & Appalachians. She's spent hundreds of days & nights alone in remote Appalachian coves observing wildlife from her anchored sailboat. She's voluntarily treated hundreds of hemlocks around WNC with the Hemlock Restoration Initiative & translated informative biological materials into Spanish for the regional hispanic community. As a bilingual performer who's lived & worked for years in Spanish speaking countries, Allen has fronted several Latin bands. She wrote a song for the award winning film “Coyote” about the difficulties immigrants face leaving their homelands for a safer, more secure life. She recently wrote a song that was played for President Carter during his last weeks with us as a “Thank You” for the great humanitarian & environmentalist. She also “performs” as a music therapist at group homes for neuro & physically divergent groups. The obsessive life long songwriter is dedicated to giving a voice, or a platform, to those who often don't have one. Whether it be a victim of a crime, an injured racoon, a non-native speaker, or an aphid infested Hemlock tree, Miriam Allen is there with a song & an open heart unafraid to bleed.
Allen owns a voice that entices the listener to steal it away for selfish keeping. Be warned: To own a piece of her music means shards of the heart will forever belong to her." MOUNTAIN XPRESS, Asheville NC
